Born and raised in Hong Kong, Kelvin is a composer, music designer and a cellist.

​

Over the years, Kelvin has collaborated with various talents, including film directors, journalists, photographers, singer-songwriters, game developers, choreographers, animators, and more. Drawing inspiration from stories and visuals, he translates abstract ideas into musical sounds, creating an emotional link between subjects and the audience.

Kelvin's work as a composer in collaboration with filmmakers has resulted in numerous successful productions. In 2024, Kelvin has joined force with the renowned film editor/art director, William Chang Suk Ping, on scoring two Hong Kong feature film named "Little Red Sweet" directed by Vincent Chow and "Someone Like Me" directed by Tam Wai Ching. One of Kelvin's scored documentary projects, titled “Eagles Rest in LiangShan” directed by Bohao Liu, won the 48th Student Academy Award (Domestic Documentary), the 41st Emmy College Television Award, and the 27th DGA Student Film Award. It was also selected by multiple film festivals across the US. Additionally, Kelvin had the privilege in collaboration with Cannes Palme d'Or-winning director Tang Yi on her short film “Yokelan 66” supported by Vogue China. The film has won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2022 AFI Fest and was selected in multiple Oscar-qualifying film festivals, including the Seattle International Film Festival, the San Diego International Film Festival, and the Urbanworld Film Festival. Beyond music composition, Kelvin has worked as an orchestrator for composer Chad Cannon on his US feature documentary “Exposing Muybridge”. The score was nominated for the 44th News & Documentary Emmy Award for Outstanding Music Composition. Kelvin also provided additional orchestration and arrangement work under Chad for Joe Hisaishi's world tour concert piece "Princess Mononoke Suite."

Since September 2021, Kelvin expanded his expertise into interactive music and video games, taking on the role of Music Designer at PlayStation Studios, Sony Interactive Entertainment. Kelvin contributed music design, music editing, music arrangement, additional composition and implementation for in-game materials and cinematics on multiple acclaimed Sony Playstation AAA titles such as "God of War: Ragnarök", "Marvel's Spider-man 2", Death Stranding 2: On the Beach", "Ghost of Yotei", etc. In 2023, Kelvin's music editing work for "God of War: Ragnarök" has received international acclaim and recognition, including the Outstanding Achievement in Music Editing – Game Music award at the 70th Golden Reel Awards presented by the Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE), alongside with the other major winning from the game including 2022 The Game Awards and 2023 BAFTA Game Awards.

Kelvin embarked his classical music training in cello and piano at the age of 9. He studied under cellist William Tsui under Hong Kong Music Office and awarded Trinity College ATCL in Cello Recital at the age of 16. Remaining active in the classical music scene from a young age, Kelvin has amassed numerous local and global performing experiences as a cellist in orchestras including Hong Kong Festival Orchestra and Hong Kong Youth Symphony Orchestra. Kelvin holds a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from HKUST and a Master's degree in Music Composition and Music Theory (Screen Scoring) from New York University Steinhardt. He studied under former Disney music director and composer Paul Chihara, Grammy Award winner Michael Patterson and film/tv composer John Kaefer.

作為作曲家的袁有幸能與世界各地音樂人，電影導演，遊戲製作人，排舞師，動畫師等交流合作，創作了多部成功的作品。2024年，袁與著名的電影剪輯師/藝術總監張叔平攜手合作，為兩部香港長片創作配樂，分別是由鄒穎執導的《紅豆》和由譚惠貞執導的《像我這樣的愛情》。袁的紀錄片配樂作品《鷹栖涼山》，由劉博濠執導，獲得第48屆奧斯卡最佳學界紀錄片獎、第41屆艾美電視獎最佳學界紀錄片和第27屆美國導演工會最佳學界紀錄片，並被美國多個影展選中。此外，袁有幸與坎城金棕櫚獎得主唐藝合作譜寫其短片配樂《玉蘭 66》，由Vogue China全力支持。該電影在2022年AFI Fest上獲得評審團大獎，並在多個奧斯卡資格影展中入選及奪獎，包括西雅圖國際電影節、聖地牙哥國際電影節和Urbanworld電影節。除了配樂作曲工作，袁於美國紀錄長片《揭露梅布里奇》（Exposing Muybridge）中擔當管弦樂編曲一職，由年輕得獎作曲家查德·卡農（Chad Cannon）譜寫。該配樂被提名為第44屆新聞與紀錄片艾美獎最佳原創音樂。Chad更帶領了袁參與由著名吉卜力工作室作曲家久石讓親自指揮及演出，世界巡演音樂會作品《幽靈公主組曲》（Princess Mononoke Suite）中提供了管弦樂編曲工作。

 

自2021年末，袁利用自身的對影視配樂的理解和經驗拓展了遊戲配樂的事業，擔任索尼互動娛樂(Sony Interactive Entertainment) Playstation Studios音樂設計師一職，為為多部備受好評的索尼PlayStation AAA大作遊戲提供音樂設計、作曲、音樂剪接、編曲、和遊戲音樂引擎上的實裝支援。近期參與的項目包括 《戰神5: 諸神黃昏》，《漫威蜘蛛俠2》，《死亡擱淺2》，《羊蹄戰鬼》等索尼獨佔大型主機遊戲，主要負責遊戲中的電影場景配樂和互動音樂設計，使各位作曲家的音樂作品能夠以更立體和更互動方式呈現予玩家。於2023年，袁藉由《戰神》中的音樂編輯工作獲得國際讚譽，包括在第70屆金卷獎頒獎典禮上獲得美國電影音效剪輯師協會 (Motion Picture Sound Editor）頒發該年度遊戲音樂剪輯卓越成就金膠捲獎（Golden Reel Award)，並與該遊戲的其他重大獲獎項目一起，獲得2022年TGA遊戲大獎和2023年BAFTA遊戲大獎。

袁自九歲起於香港開始接受鋼琴的古典音樂訓練，並於⾳樂事務處接受大提琴教育，師承大提琴家徐樂明，十六歲考獲大提琴演奏級文憑。作為大提琴⼿的他有豐富本地及國際演出經驗，曾參與的樂團包括香港節慶管弦樂團，香港青年管弦樂團等。於香港科技大學取得土木工程系學士學位後，2019年踏遠赴美國紐約大學修讀音樂與作曲碩士，主修電影及影視配樂，師從前美國迪士尼音樂總監及作曲家 Paul Chihara，格萊美獎得主Michael Patterson以及影視配樂作曲家John Kaefer。
